RailRobin is in a private pilot. We are finalising these terms with our legal advisers before the public launch; we will tell you in the app before any material change. Items highlighted like this are still being confirmed.
Who we are and what this covers
- RailRobin is a companion app for metro riders in Bengaluru and Chennai. It is operated by [Company legal name], [CIN], with its registered office at [address] (“RailRobin”, “we”, “us”).
- These terms cover the RailRobin mobile apps, the “follow my trip” web pages, this website, and the RailRobin API and map data (together, the “Service”).
- By installing or using the Service you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
Not affiliated with the metro operators
- RailRobin is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), Namma Metro, Chennai Metro, or any government body.
- Operator names, line names, station names and logos belong to their owners. We use station and line names only to describe the network.
- Fares, timetables, rules, safety contacts and service notices are published by the operators, and our copies may be out of date or incomplete. The operator's official sources, station signs and staff always take priority. The app shows when each item was last checked, wherever we have that date.
- RailRobin does not sell tickets, top up travel cards or handle fares.
Your account
- You can use some features without an account. Earning coins, rewards, games, groups and some other features need you to sign in with your mobile number and a one-time code.
- Age. You must be at least 18 to create an account, or have the verifiable consent of a parent or lawful guardian.
- One account per person, and one active phone per account. Signing in on a new phone signs the old one out.
- Keep your phone and sign-in codes to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account until you tell us it has been misused.
- Your RailRobin ID (@handle) and display name must not impersonate anyone, contain phone numbers or contact details, or be offensive. We may change or reset names that break these rules.
Coins, rewards and the lucky draw
Coins are loyalty points with no cash value. They are not money, a deposit, a wallet balance or a payment instrument, and cannot be bought, sold, transferred or exchanged for cash, except where an in-app feature (such as gifting a voucher to a group member) expressly allows it. We may reverse coins or cancel vouchers that came from fraud, abuse, technical errors or breaches of these terms. Partners, not RailRobin, supply the goods and services behind rewards.
The full rules, including how coins are earned and capped, vouchers, the lucky draw and fair play, are in the rewards & coins terms, which form part of these terms.
Robin, the AI assistant
- Robin answers questions about the metro using information we have reviewed. It uses a third-party AI model to write the answers.
- Robin can be wrong. Answers may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Check important details with the cited source or with the operator, especially fares, timings, accessibility and safety.
- Emergencies. In an emergency, call 112 or the operator's helpline. Do not rely on Robin.
- Robin's answers are not professional, legal, medical or safety advice.
- Don't put personal information in your questions. How we handle questions, and the optional “Save my Robin chats” setting, is described in the privacy policy.
- Robin has daily limits. Don't use it to generate content in bulk.
Sponsored content and partners
- Some content is paid for by partners or sponsors, for example a coach theme, a featured place, a reward or a partner offer. It is always labelled “Sponsored” or with the partner's name, and goes through the same two-person review as our own content.
- Featuring a partner is not our endorsement of their goods or services.
Map data and OpenStreetMap
- Station locations, exits and nearby places come in part from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Learn more at openstreetmap.org/copyright.
- Our map package is a database derived from OpenStreetMap, with our corrections added. To the extent the ODbL applies, you may use the OpenStreetMap-derived data under the ODbL's terms, including its attribution and share-alike requirements. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the ODbL.
- Our other content is ours or our licensors': guides, quizzes, stories, themes, illustrations, the app and its code. It is not under the ODbL.
Acceptable use
You must not:
- access the Service by automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers, scripts or bulk downloads of the API, the map package or app content) beyond what the official app does in normal use;
- copy, extract, republish or sell our content, or build a competing database from it. This does not affect your rights under the ODbL for the OpenStreetMap-derived data;
- reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app, or get around App Check, device-integrity checks, rate limits or other security measures, except as far as the law allows;
- use the Service to train AI or machine-learning models without our written permission;
- interfere with the Service, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or overload it. To report a security issue, write to support@railrobin.in;
- use the Service unlawfully, or to harass, defame or harm others;
- post content in groups, names, stories or anywhere else that is unlawful, infringing or offensive. See the community guidelines.
We may limit, suspend or close accounts and block access that breaks these rules.
“Follow my trip” links
When you share a trip link, anyone who has it can see your trip's progress (your first name, the stations and the estimated arrival) until the trip ends. They do not see your location. Share links only with people you trust.
Content you send us
You keep ownership of anything you send us, such as feedback, corrections, group names or stories. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use it to run and improve the Service. Stories selected for publication may have their own agreement, shown when you submit.
Availability and changes
- The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. It may be interrupted, changed or withdrawn.
- We may update these terms. For material changes we will tell you in the app at least [15] days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the change.
Liability
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
- Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for missed trains, travel delays or fares charged by the operators; losses caused by relying on operator data, map data or Robin's answers; partner goods or services; or indirect or consequential loss.
- Our total liability to you is limited to [INR 1,000].
Grievances and contact
- Grievance Officer: [Name], [designation], [email], [postal address]. We acknowledge complaints within [48 hours] and resolve them within [15] days, or the period set by applicable rules.
- General support: support@railrobin.in, or Me → Help & support in the app.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at [Bengaluru] have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any right you have to go to a consumer forum.
