About RailRobin
What is RailRobin?
RailRobin is a companion app for metro riders in Bengaluru (Namma Metro) and Chennai (Chennai Metro). It gives you a next-station board for your ride, Robin, an AI assistant that answers metro questions with official sources, quick games that earn coins, and rewards from partner outlets at or near stations.
Is RailRobin the official metro app?
No. RailRobin is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for BMRCL, CMRL or any government body. Fares, timetables and rules come from the operators' published information, and the operator's own sources, station signs and staff always take priority.
Can I buy tickets or top up my card in RailRobin?
No. RailRobin doesn't sell tickets, top up travel cards or handle fares. Use the operator's own apps, counters and machines for that. Robin and the Metro guide can tell you how.
When can I download it?
RailRobin is in a private pilot on Android with friends and early backers. It's coming to Google Play soon, with iPhone after that. Want to join the pilot? Email us.
Which cities and languages are supported?
Bengaluru and Chennai today. The app and Robin work in English, ಕನ್ನಡ (Kannada), தமிழ் (Tamil) and हिन्दी (Hindi). You can join the waitlist for other cities from the city picker in the app.
Metro Mode and location
How does Metro Mode work?
Tap Start Metro Mode, pick the station you're at and the one where you'll get off, and check in. The app checks your location once at the station (within about 250 m, with a good GPS fix) and then turns location off. Check-in opens a 90-minute earning window for games.
How does the next-station board work underground?
It estimates your stops from the timetable and the clock, not GPS, so it keeps working in tunnels. If it drifts, tap “I'm at” on the ride card to correct it. You can also turn on an alert one stop before your destination.
Does RailRobin track my location?
Only if you say so. Metro Mode checks your location once, when you check in. During the ride you can turn on “Use location” to show the next station: it works only while the app is open, stays on your phone and is never sent to us. Share my trip shows stations and your expected arrival, never your location.
What is Share my trip?
Once you've planned a trip and tapped “I'm boarding”, you can share a live link. It shows your first name, the stations and your expected arrival, never your location. The link stops when you end the trip, or 15 minutes after your expected arrival (at most 4 hours after sharing).
Robin, the AI assistant
What can I ask Robin?
Anything about your city's metro and RailRobin: fares, tickets, exits, lifts, parking, rules, lost property, places near a station, or your coins. Every answer shows its sources and when they were last checked.
Can Robin be wrong?
Yes. AI answers can be inaccurate or out of date. Check important details, especially fares, timings, accessibility and safety, with the cited source or the operator. In an emergency, call 112 or the operator's helpline, not Robin.
How many questions can I ask?
30 a day when you're signed in and 3 a day without signing in (India time). Asking the same question again within 10 minutes doesn't count, and questions about an emergency never count. Robin needs internet; the Metro guide works offline.
Does RailRobin keep my questions?
By default, no: the question text isn't stored. Phone numbers and email addresses are removed before a question reaches the AI model, and your name, number and account id are never sent to it. If you turn on Save my Robin chats, your chats are kept on your account for 90 days so you can see them again; you can turn it off and delete them in Settings. Details are in the privacy policy.
Coins, games and rewards
How do I earn coins?
Start Metro Mode at the station, then play games on the train. Games pay coins only inside a ride's 90-minute window, up to 300 coins a day. You can also earn from the Kannada word of the day, crowd reports, the welcome bonus, your birthday and inviting friends. The full list is in the rewards & coins terms.
Why did a game give me XP and no coins?
Coins are paid only while Metro Mode is on, inside the 90-minute window after check-in, and up to 300 coins a day. Practice games, games outside the window and games after the daily limit earn XP only. A ride that looks impossible also earns nothing.
Are coins worth money?
No. Coins are loyalty points with no cash value. They can't be bought, sold, transferred or exchanged for cash. You spend them on rewards in the app.
How do I redeem a reward?
Open Rewards, pick a reward you have enough coins for and confirm (you'll need a connection). Show the voucher code, which starts with RR-, at the partner's counter and tap Mark as used. If you don't use it before it expires, the coins go back to your balance automatically.
Account, privacy and support
How do I sign in?
With your mobile number and a 6-digit code sent by SMS. No passwords. One account per person and one active phone per account: signing in on a new phone signs the old one out.
How do I turn off analytics?
Go to Me → Settings → Privacy and switch off “Share usage analytics”. The app then stops sending usage events. Analytics never include your phone number, name or anything you type.
How do I delete my account?
See Delete your account for the steps in the app and how to ask without the app.
How do I contact RailRobin?
In the app: Me → Help & support, where you can request a call back (Mon–Sat, 9 am to 7 pm IST). Or see the support page. For lost property or problems at a station, contact the metro operator.
